The lawmaker-elect for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has nominated Surulere constituency 1 lawmaker-elect, Femi Gbajabiamila, as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives after a three-minute long speech.
Jibrin, who is the director-general of Gbajabiamila’s campaign, nominated the latter after showering encomiums on him in a speech that lasted for five minutes (from 3.10pm to 3.15pm), the longest in recent history.
Jibrin, who had nominated Yakubu Dogara who eventually emerged Speaker in 2015 but later fell out with Dogara, said he was supporting Gbajabiamila to redeem himself.
Describing his candidate as a progressive in the mould of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, said Gbajabiamila was a man of the people with a proven track record.
Gbajabiamila, who has been a member of the House since 2003, accepted the nomination.
